Reset & Reconnect, Why Retreating Matters

As the fall and colder months approach here in the Northern Hemisphere and greenery turns into rust and auburn shades of red giving way to barren trees that leads to winter, most of us prepare by bulking harvest items to last throughout the season. Animals, like bears, burrow in dens, birds fortify their nests for added warmth and we make warmer heartier dishes to keep us full longer, it’s a form of retreating. To re-treat or withdraw and turn inward can be done in any capacity for any length of time, a day, weeks or even months at a time. They are meant to offer new perspectives and insight into oneself. Usually led by a guiding topic or “theme,” retreats allow you to meet yourself where you are and maybe show you where you’d ultimately like to go.

Reset

Retreats allow you to fine-tune examine and re-calibrate yourself by slowing down or doing less in order to achieve more. Often times, when technology is not working the best guidance is to power down and reset, why don’t we do the same?

Reconnect

Smaller retreats offer intimate connections with others, learning something new about someone you may already know and ultimately learning more about yourself. Connecting back to yourself is the key takeaway.

My personal love of retreats began as a child when my school regularly took us on a retreat every few months. It’s a twice a year practice I give myself, one local and another abroad since. Upon my return from my time at Xinalani, mi familia thought I had a noticeable glow or aura of calm (my skin was radiant after a week of delicious meals and walking the stairs). Moreso, I had clearer focus of what I wanted to do both personally and professionally, I gained direction and clarity. Curious about retreating, explore Xinalani’s offerings as a group or solo traveler, the next best version of yourself awaits.
