If you’re looking for more than just a wellness activity during your stay at Xinalani, our temazcal ceremony is one of the most powerful and transformative experiences you can live in Mexico. Rooted in ancient traditions, the temazcal is much more than a steam bath – it is a sacred ritual that symbolizes renewal, healing, and rebirth.

What is a Temazcal?
The word temazcal comes from the Nahuatl language and means “house of heat.” It is a traditional sweat lodge used for centuries by indigenous communities in Mexico for purification of body, mind, and spirit. Inside a circular, stone-built hut, volcanic rocks are heated and then sprinkled with water infused with herbs, creating a therapeutic steam that cleanses and revitalizes.

The Temazcal at Xinalani
At Xinalani, the ceremony is guided by an experienced temazcalero who leads you through chants, breathwork, and moments of silence. The ritual lasts about an hour and a half, inviting you to release what no longer serves you and embrace a fresh start. With the jungle as your backdrop and the Pacific Ocean just a few steps away, the setting makes this journey deeply intimate and unforgettable.
Experiencing it as a Couple
For couples, the temazcal becomes a shared journey of connection and renewal. Facing the heat together, supporting each other through the intensity, and finally stepping out into the ocean creates a profound sense of intimacy. Many couples describe it as a symbolic rebirth of their relationship, a chance to let go and start again with fresh energy.

Experiencing it as a Group
The temazcal is also powerful in community. With a minimum of six participants, the group energy magnifies the ceremony. Sharing songs, silence, and breakthroughs in the warmth of the temazcal creates a unique bond. When the door finally opens and everyone steps into the ocean, there is a collective sense of release and renewal – like being born again together.
From Fire to Water: A Ritual of Rebirth
One of the most moving parts of the ceremony is the ending. After sweating, chanting, and meditating inside the womb-like heat, participants step outside and immerse themselves in the ocean. The cool water feels like a first breath, a return to life. The transition from the fire of the temazcal to the embrace of the sea is the ultimate symbol of rebirth and transformation.
✨ At Xinalani, the temazcal is more than a wellness activity – it’s a spiritual journey that invites you to reconnect with yourself, your loved ones, and the elements of nature.
